Franklinton High School Marine ROTC Color Guard Ponemah Wreath Ceremony Students are now able to fill water bottles or cups and drink water safely while at school due to a generous donation from Cargill of Franklinton. Safe water filling stations are being installed at all district schools. WPSS is grateful for our community partnership with Cargill. Varnado High School student, LaDerrick Smith, was awarded the highest honor given to youth by Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America (CADCA) at the national conference in Washington D.C. CADCA is a national program purposing to reduce drug use one community at a time. Smith received the National Outstanding Youth Leader of the Year award. This award recognizes leaders that have gone above the call of duty to work diligently in their coalitions, demonstrate a passion from making an impact on their community and have a lasting effect on the NYLI (National Youth Leadership Initiative.) The district is proud to announce it has reclaimed the "B" letter grade status issued by the Louisiana Department of Education and all school letter grades are "B" or "C". DISTANCE LEARNING NOTIFICATION The is constantly monitoring the Louisiana Department of Health guidelines in order to provide the safest possible learning environment for all students. As a result, beginning October 15, 2020, the Distance Learning program will change for K-12 students. (PK Distance Learning remains the same.) Only students with extenuating circumstances will continue with the program. Parent letters were sent to all current K-12 distance learning students explaining the changes and the process for applying to continue distance learning due to extenuating circumstances. LA Strong Start Survey Spring 2021 The Louisiana Department of Education is releasing a Strong Start Spring survey to gather feedback from a variety of stakeholders. The responses to the survey will be used to develop a comprehensive report of the data collected and to determine support provided to school systems for the 2021-2022 school year. The Strong Start Spring survey will be released in two phases. This survey is Phase 1 and should be completed by school leaders, teachers, students, families, and community members.
